Euphorbia ‘Red Wing’ one of the many new cultivars of euphorbia available. These plants are very drought tolerant once established. Maintenance is very low. Trim away the old stems once flowering has finished and your ready for next year. |
Good old pulmonaria. Here’s another bullet proof plant with low maintenance requirements. Great for the rich, moist woodland garden. |
Need a plant for dry shade? Epimedium is the answer. I have this variety ( which I can’t remember the name ) growing under a cedar tree and it thrives there. One tough plant! |
Brunnera ‘Jack Frost’ has got to be one of the best plants to come along in years. Blue forget-me-not flowers bloom from April to June. Great for the woodland garden. |
Another plant with blue forget-me-not flowers is omphalodes verna. It is a bit of a spreader but not aggressively. It’s growing here under hydrangea. |
You either like this plant or not. A bit of a novelty with it’s green on green is anemone nemorosa ‘viridiflora’ |
Pulsatilla vulgaris a nice early spring bloomer. Good in the rock garden or border, good for naturalizing. We have it growing in our drought tolerant garden. So far so good. |
Something you don’t see to often is white muscari. It’s a nice change from all the blues that are available. |
Bergenia ‘Sliver Light’ these plants are tolerant of many soil conditions, including dry shade. |
Lathyrus vernus is a little different from it’s cousin lathyrus latifolius in that it doesn’t trail but instead forms nice small clumps. Another good choice for a woodland type area. |
This is an introduction from the University of British Columbia. Ribes ‘icicles’ is a nice change from the red variety that is readily available. This bumble bee was also enjoying it. |
Erysimum x ‘Bowles Mauve’ is a shrubby plant that blooms over a long period of time. They should be sheared mid summer to promote fall blooming. |

I’ve featured this plant many times. It just gets better as the season goes on. Helleborus argutifolius in full bloom. In or out of bloom this plant is a winner. |
